Your password

Like many online services, Verhuurtbeter.nl requires a password when you log in. Your password helps us ensure that we do not show your information to anyone but you.

Unfortunately, 'hackers' are trained and experienced at guessing passwords. The security of your information depends on you choosing a strong password for Verhuurtbeter.nl and any other online services you use.

Requirements

When you choose your password for Verhuurtbeter.nl, we take some steps to ensure you choose a strong password. We only allow passwords that:

  1. are at least 9 characters long,

  2. contain at least 1 capital letter,

  3. contain at least 1 number and,

  4. contain at least 1 special character (such as #@/!:).

Choosing a strong password

Strong passwords are long phrases of upper and lower case letters, numbers and special characters. Do not use public information about yourself, such as your birthday or the street where you live, in your password. Avoid using a word from a dictionary as 'your password'.

Here are some good tips for creating strong passwords:

  • Take a sentence that describes something personal about you. Then shorten the sentence as if you were trying to put it on a number plate. To this, add extra letters, numbers and characters. For example, "When I was five, my favourite stuffed animal was a dragon!". Would make the following strong password: ti5jw,wmf@vkeD!

  • Put a few words together and add special characters and numbers in random places, but not exactly between the words. For example: Pin$cod#eK@sT39 is a strong password.

  • Take a phrase from a favourite song of yours and use the first and last letters of each word and add a special character or number at random places. For example, "I bless the rains down in Africa" (by artist Toto) could become the next strong password: Ibst3r$dninA@!

Never use the same password for Verhuurtbeter.nl as you already use for other online services. In general, it is wise to choose a different password for each online service.

Keep your password strong

Remembering strong passwords can be tricky, but don't write down your passwords. Anyone who finds your notes containing your passwords will then have access to your information. Instead, we recommend using trusted password programmes such as 1Password or Lastpass. These password programmes can also generate strong passwords for you when you log in there.
